about

but Make it queer.

Mercury Morchella Baxley (they/he) is a queer illustrator and printmaker based in Portland, Oregon.

Their work celebrates the bountiful diversity and queerness of life in nature and human society! Their intent is to encourage connection between people and nature and to fight against the false narrative that queerness isn’t part of nature.

Their work is visually inspired by queer life/love, as well as mushrooms, fungi, and other queer species that are often overlooked or unwanted. their work utilizes linoleum and wood relief printing, screen printing, digital illustration, and whatever else the project needs!

they sell their work at local markets and events and on Big Cartel.

  • all of my characters are queer or trans. in a world where queer folks have to try to make space in a society that is dominated by cis-heterosexuality, i want to show the beauty and diversity of the queer community.

  • I am inspired by fungal, floral, and organic imagery, especially mushrooms, other fungi, lichen, and other queer species that are often overlooked, unwanted, or considered weeds.
